Sailing in the Leeward Islands
In 2018 I worked on assignment for Broadreach, as their College Alumni Editor.
With Broadreach, I documented life one of their marine science teaching boat the Saphir, a 52 foot catamaran, as a student on one of their sailing and marine biology programs. My work consisted of digitizing my journal from the trip, as well as curating a photography portfolio of boat life, and introductory SCUBA courses. The following page is a summary of six blog posts, and my portfolio from the project.

For twenty-two days in June and July 2018, I had the unique opportunity to travel to the Leeward Islands with Broadreach as the company’s 2018 Alumni Editor. The position is open to student ambassadors—students who have traveled with Broadreach in the past, and were recommended by their instructors—and requires the recipient to devise a creative project while on one of Broadreach’s summer trips. My intended project was a written and visual portfolio that conveyed hot topics in marine research—a wildly abstract and romanticized idea I quickly realized needed to be more focused. The result was this: a journal accompanied by a series of photographs, predominantly seascapes, that conveyed my personal experience with the Caribbean. My intention is to highlight the natural wonders of the Leeward Islands as a means of advocating for their conservation and preservation. Most importantly, I hope to share the spirit of adventure that was cultivated inside of me while sailing through the bright, open waters of the Caribbean Sea.
